Many veterans face unique challenges when returning to an academic setting after serving in the military. It has been found that up to one-third of student veterans may be struggling with “invisible wounds of war,” traumatic brain injury, post-traumatic stress disorder or major depression. To accommodate these students, the Student Nursing Association worked with DU to open a student veteran study area in the W.A. Lettinga Campus Library.
The study area will give student military personel and veterans a specific space to address the special needs of post-traumatic stress disorder and reintegration into civilian life. The room will be kept quiet and secluded with minimal distractions.
The Student Nursing Association is continuing to raise funds to offer additional amenities in the future:
- Simple, mellow and adjustable lighting
- Noise-canceling headphones
